A few years back, wildlife artist and writer Chris Smith hooked his brother, Jake (editor of The Pointing Dog Journal, The Retriever Journal and Just Labs), Jon Osborn (author of Flyfisher's Guide to Michigan and Classic Michigan Flies) and me into sharing the load of writing a weekly outdoor column for the Traverse City Record-Eagle. We each write one column a month, and mine comes out the fourth Thursday. Five years later, we are still doing it. Of the 50 columns I've written so far, these are some of my favorites.
