Walloon Lake Family Trips
Walloon Lake Family Trips
Sometimes, guests have children with little fishing experience, or they don't have the time needed for a river trip. What they really want is just a nice time on the water with easy fishing. Over the years, some of my favorite trips have been taking a family out on Walloon Lake, just a mile from where I live, to fish for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, bluegills, sunfish, rock bass and perch. We use spinning tackle, and the most productive strategy is a worm with a bobber. However, if anglers want to cast artificial lures or flies, they are welcome to do so. Walloon is an absolutely beautiful, turquoise lake with gorgeous cottages along its steep hilly shoreline. It's a large but narrow lake with many arms, so no matter what the wind is doing ,you can always find a place to get away from it. It's a tricky lake to fish because its weed beds are small and scattered. Once you find them, you can anchor and fish for an hour or so at each weed bed before moving on. And if it's hot and your kids would like to swim off the boat at the end of the trip, that's fine, too! These three-hour trips are short and sweet. Just the right amount of time to catch some fish and create some memories.
